SETA Policy:
- SETA will make every effort to discuss donation with the funeral director prior to recovery if the family has made a decision on a funeral home.
- SETA will obtain informed consent and recover tissue as quickly as possible in order to allow funeral homes the time necessary to make arrangements.
- SETA places a donor tag on each donor to identify it as the recovery agency, SETA also provides a recovery sheet to identify the tissues recovered and the responsible individuals.
- SETA has licensed funeral directors on staff to assist with any questions or concerns by funeral homes.
- SETA technicians are trained to ligate, preserve and tie off major vessels to facilitate embalming.
- SETA will always reconstruct the donor, even on direct cremations, in order to preserve the dignity of the donor.
- SETA uses wooden prosthesis suitable for use in retorts.
- SETA provides a union-all and dry-en-lock materials to facilitate embalming and viewings.
- SETA will notify the medical examiner and funeral home if it discovers any information that would be of interest to the medical examiner. SETA will only perform recovery on medical examiner cases with their prior documented approval.
