The Mission of the University of Miami Tissue Bank (UMTB) is to provide a broad range of tissue transplantation
services to the South Florida community, to conduct research directed at improving the quality of tissue transplantation and to
provide education and consultation in tissue transplantation.
These values guide the University of Miami Tissue Banks’ decisions and actions:
- All patients deserve a high standard of care and are entitled to services, regardless of their ability to pay – Families who are offered the option of tissue donation may find solace in their contribution to the community – Tissue banks have a duty, to recipients of their services and to donors, to fairly and efficiently manage tissue entrusted to them, providing it at the lowest cost consistent with high quality. The highest standard of safety for donors, recipients and employees is essential. – Encouraging professional excellence in each employee improves the quality of all services – Information on advancements in tissue transplantation enables the medical community to better service transplant recipients – Taking a leadership role to improve regional, national and international tissue transplantation medicine increases the tissue bank’s ability to service community needs
